			CREDIT UNIONS - which are savings and loans co-operatives, set up owned and run by its members. They work by promoting good financial practices through regular savings, pooling all the savings and balancing savings against low cost loans. World-wide in 1995 about 84 million people belonged to some 36,000 credit unions. LOCAL EXCHANGE AND TRADING SYSTEMS – is a way of letting a group of people trade their skills and goods without having to spend any money. Unlike the traditional barter system, LETS members can get credit with one member and spend it with anyone else offering a service they may need. INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY PROJECT – establishing several independent networked ICT projects located in various areas throughout Barnsley. These projects will be run by local communities to allow local people to access ICT equipment, E-mail and training free of charge. Each individual base will be encouraged to develop a trading arm and therefore enable them to be self-sustainable. FURNITURE RECYCLING – this project is being developed through a Community Partnership to refurbish second hand furniture at affordable prices. There is also potential of producing wooden artefacts from reclaimed wood that could be sold on to support the sustainability if this project. There is the potential of offering a number of paid jobs as well as volunteering opportunities that will give people training. CHILDCARE INITIATIVE – the establishment of this project through a Community Partnership will offer affordable breakfast club, full day care and after school club. This will provide a service within the community and offer training for individuals wishing to work with young children as well as creating employment opportunities. COMMUNITY CAFÉ – surplus monies going to sustain full time jobs and to allow luncheon club activities more accessible and affordable for local people.
