The region boasts an excellent array of theatres. Barnsley’s Lamproom Theatre hosts many plays, musicals, and one man shows throughout the year, providing the people of Barnsley with an opportunity to enjoy theatre, comedy, music, pantomimes, family entertainment and live performances of a great variety.

The 180 seat tiered Academy Theatre offers a varied programme of top class entertainment from both amateur and professional productions. It is also used as a performance platform for members of the theatre school and as a facility for teaching youngsters the technical side of stage works. The theatre can also be hired as a venue for conferences, events and as a training facility.

In the surrounding region the impressive Crucible, Lyceum and Studio Theatre Complex in Sheffield are the largest outside London; Leeds is home to the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, the Northern Ballet and the internationally acclaimed West Yorkshire Playhouse theatre and each of the region’s main towns offers a choice of venues and productions.
