SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BARNSLEY
PRESS RELEASES
ALL LOVED UP IN WORSBROUGH COMMON!
19th March 2006
Members of Worsbrough Common Community Assosiation, Yvonne and Vera, with a wide array of items for their 'Pre-Loved Sore'
Worsbrough Common Community Association are opening a 'Pre-Loved Store' to raise funds for a new purpose-built community centre in the village.
The store, located on Highstone Road, Worsbrough Common, will sell second hand children's clothes, books, toys, games, quality bric-a-brac and a variety of baby equipment.
The Community Association has been able to keep the costs of publicising the store to a minimum, thanks to the generosity of local printer Print & Foil, which agreed to print advertising leaflets for 'thrupence' (three pence in old money). Yvonne Saunder of the Community Association even presented Peter Betts of Print & Foil with a 'thrupenny bit' as a 'thank you'!
Along with funds raised by other activities organised by the Community Association, all profits generated by the Pre-Loved Store will contribute towards the building of a new community centre in Worsbrough Common. It is hoped that the building, which will be known as 'The Commons Centre', will house the local post office, a hairdressers, a multi-use games hall and meeting rooms - offering a focal point for the residents of Worsbrough Common.
Worsbrough Common Community Association have been assisted by Barnsley Development Agency's Social Enterprise Barnsley team, which provided advice, guidance and access to grants. Constance Thorpe, Business Adviser, Social Enterprise Barnsley, comments: "The Community Association has demonstrated a real desire to improve facilities for the residents of Worsbrough Common - and we are delighted to provide assistance, both now and in the future".
To donate items to the Worsbrough Common Community Association's Pre-Loved Store, call Yvonne on 01226 298211 or Vera on 01226 206174. Worsbrough Common is in the top 4% of the most deprived areas in England and currently has no facilities for their youth, elderly or the community as a whole. In addition, crime levels in the area are high. However, the Community Association, which is made up entirely of volunteers, has achieved a great deal since forming in 2000.
Worsbrough Common Summer Carnival will be held on Saturday 1st July (10am - 4pm) at Worsbrough Common Top Recreation Ground. Attractions include a mobile ice rink, knockout football tournament, tug-of-war, bouncy castles, samba band, stalls, entertainers, dancing and more. For further details contact Yvonne on 01226 298211 or Vera on 01226 206174.
