Retail sector takes a series of blows
Leading high street retailer Jane Norman is the latest high profile company to be put into administration, hot on the heels of the news that Habitat is to close 30 stores outside of London. Home fittings company Homeform, the owner of Moben, Dolphin and Kitchens Direct, was also put into administration last week.
Most recent official figures show that UK retail sales fell 1.4% in May. Rising prices of raw materials have not made trading conditions any easier for clothing retailers.
The failures of Habitat and Homeform alone could put 3,700 out of work.
