SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BARNSLEY

PRESS RELEASES

NATURALLY BEST REAL NAPPY SERVICE

15th April 2005

Work underway for the Real Nappy Service

The provision of a real nappy, supply and laundry service for Barnsley moved a step closer to reality this week as the Waste Partnership Fund (part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, gave approval to a bid by Made In Barnsley Ltd for funding to set up this service.

The Naturally Best Real Nappy Service will sell modern cotton nappies and covers for parents to home launder and will also offer a laundry service that will supply, collect, launder and deliver nappies and covers for a fixed weekly fee. The very latest technology will be used to wash the nappies guaranteeing maximum cleanliness, without the use of harsh detergents or bleach, making them much safer for babies.

The service will be the first offered by Made In Barnsley Ltd, which has been created to provide employment and training opportunities for people recovering from mental heath problems. Made In Barnsley will operate as a social enterprise, which is a business that uses the profits it generates for the benefit of the community and all the board of directors of the company are unpaid volunteers.

The project has been assisted by Peter Lodge, a business advisor with the Social Enterprise Barnsley Team at Barnsley Development Agency. Peter adds, “This approval is excellent news for Made In Barnsley Ltd and for the parents and carers of babies in Barnsley who also care about the environment.”

Made In Barnsley Ltd are currently running a competition for Barnsley School children to design the company’s logo (closing date is 15th April). The website madeinbarnsley.org is being constructed ready for a mid April launch, which will include the facility for people to buy a range of ‘Made In Barnsley’ products and services. Local companies and specialist businesses are being invited to register to use the ‘Made In Barnsley’ logo and support the enterprise in its long term aim of providing care and support facilities for people with mental health problems.
