Barnsley Development Agency (BDA) have secured £3 million to run the Transitional Labour Market Programme (TLM) which will assist over 300 Barnsley people to gain employment by the end of 2007.

The TLM programme will address worklessness in Barnsley by assisting the long-term unemployed and will enable individuals to gain employment alongside valuable experience and qualifications utilising a wage subsidy. The programme which is aligned to sector growth areas within Barnsley is currently looking to private sector employers in Healthcare, Business Services, Retailing, IT and Construction, to help them address their skills shortages.

The programme is co-ordinated by the Social Enterprise Barnsley Team (SEB). Funded by Objective 1, the European Social Fund, Yorkshire Forward’s Single Pot and the Single Regeneration Budget Round 6, TLM will build on the success of the SYCON Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) programme, which ended in December 2004.
