RADIO BARNSLEY IS HERE!

Radio Barnsley has recently been given the go ahead for the launch of a pilot of their community radio station and will be on air till the 16th December on 87.7 FM.
Radio Barnsley is part of Barnsley YMCA and have a long-term commitment to the people of Barnsley, to provide a local based community radio station which is not for profit. The station provides listeners with top quality music programmes for all tastes and a local information service. Organisations from a wide variety of sources including the voluntary and charitable sector are invited to visit the studios at Blucher Street, Barnsley and gain free publicity about their activities, increasing their profile and effectiveness.
Since 1995 Radio Barnsley have successfully conducted broadcasts on 12 separate occasions gaining an increasing audience. These broadcasts provide important airtime for community groups and social enterprise, providing a local information service.
The station is currently seeking volunteers in order to aid them in their anticipated busy period and there are positions available throughout various areas of production. Training will be provided and this could provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain training and experience within a unique environment.
Barnsley Development Agency’s Social Enterprise Barnsley (SEB) team is in full support of Radio Barnsley and its commitment towards social enterprise and community development. SEB’s business advisor, Paul Steele said, “Radio Barnsley is a long awaited service which will provide links between service providers and communities and provides an information focal point aiding participation and community development throughout Barnsley. Participation will be the key to the future success of Radio Barnsley and its potential as a full time community radio station”.
