Made in Barnsley Ltd is a social enterprise focusing on the needs of people recovering from mental health problems and has been created to provide training and employment opportunities.
Bringing together experienced practitioners in mental health care, the Client Alliance group and business advice from the Barnsley Development Agency, this exciting venture was launched at the beginning of 2005.
Made In Barnsley aims to create a number of social enterprises that will generate profits. These profits will be used to provide meaningful income levels for people, giving them the opportunity to return to work in a supportive environment that will improve their health and provide security for their families.
The first service to be launched by Made In Barnsley is the ‘Naturally Best Real Nappy Service’ which provides an alternative to disposable nappies and reduces the amount of waste going to landfill sites.
The full laundry service will supply, collect and launder a supply of nappies at a fixed weekly price per baby, which compares favourably with the cost of disposable nappies. The Nappy Service will provide employment for people recovering from mental health problems.
Social Enterprise Barnsley has provided help with the development of the Nappy Service business plan and applications for funding in addition to £5,000 from its development fund to help the company launch and establish an e-commerce website.
