1. Westgate

The £14 million state of the art Council office development on Westgate will be the first major development to be completed as part of the Remaking Barnsley programme.

It will become part of the new civic and commercial core of the town ­ a vibrant mix of offices, leisure and residential uses. The development will comprise 6000 sq. metres of modern Council offices and will set new standards in architectural design in Barnsley.

A ground breaking ceremony took place in October 2005 to mark the start on site with an estimated completion and occupation by November 2006.

The Westgate development will be a contemporary five floor building with open-plan office space, a two storey reception area and many other facilities. It will bring together the majority of the Council's office based and administrative staff into a single, high quality, low maintenance, energy efficient building.
