BUILDING A FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE

Barnsley Community Build (BCB) have received over £32,000 of additional funding from various support organisations to fund vehicles and equipment. BCB programme is a community business that functions fully as a construction company limited by guarantee with charitable status.

The programme was set up to maximise training and employment opportunities in the construction sector in Barnsley. It runs with New Deal and ILM trainees, who work on BCB’s building work and attend day releases at college and have over the last 2 years helped over 180 trainees to qualify in painting and decorating, bricklaying, gas fitting, plumbing, plastering and joinery.


SRB 6 have funded over £18,000 for a new van and small plant equipment including a breaker, cement mixer, tower scaffolding and steam cleaners. South Yorkshire Key Fund has provided £10,000 to allow BCB to purchase a second new van and to fund various training courses for driving lessons and first aid. Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward have given an additional £3,500 for IT equipment to promote the service and gather work based evidence for NVQ’s.

BCB Manager, Steve Palmer said,”I would like to thank the funding organisations and support organisations in helping us to provide training and employment opportunities for Barnsley people and between us we are making a difference.”

Andy Arnold Coordinator at Social Enterprise Barnsley added, “BCB have a committed staff team and board of Directors, they are putting construction training back on the agenda, quality training of this calibre is essential in the regeneration of the town.”
