BUILDING BARNSLEYS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
Barnsley Development Agency (BDA) and Barnsley Community Build are pleased to announce the creation of a further six job opportunities through the Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) programme. The ILM programme provides a bridge back to work for people who have been long term unemployed. It provides paid employment for up to 12 months with local companies that could lead to full time permanent jobs.
Ian Hately, Workforce Development Coordinator for BDA said, These new positions will provide six local people with the opportunity to gain skills, experience and qualifications in the construction industry. There is a real shortage of skilled people in the construction industry in Barnsley. These new training opportunities should enable them to get a well paid job in an industry that is currently experiencing problems in recruiting staff.
Barnsley Community Build are currently based at the Acorn Centre at Grimethorpe and in the past 2 years have helped 180 trainees to qualify in painting and decorating, bricklaying, gas fitting, plumbing, plastering, joinery and many more trades. Trainees work on projects around the Barnsley area in the public and private sectors. Many of the building projects are in partnership with Berneslai Homes and the local authoritiys Environment & Development Directorate and provide training and employment opportunities for bricklayers and painters.
