NEW YEAR – NEW START!

For most unemployed people making the decision to return to work and find a job which suits their individual circumstances, can be a nightmare! As well as the seemingly endless forms to complete, CV’s to send and the interview nerves there can often be barriers such as childcare, transport and in many cases a lack of confidence. A new initiative, the Full Employment Area Pilot has been set up to encourage and help people living in the Kendray and Thurnscoe areas to get back into work.

The small team, have been operating for just over a year and have proved to be a phenomenal success, so far they have assisted over sixty local people get back into work.


Over the course of 2003, the Full Employment Team has targeted every household in Kendray and Thurnscoe. This has meant knocking on the doors of 6,276 houses, informing residents of the service and one to one support that the team can offer to anyone wishing to find employment. The team offers a comprehensive range of support to anyone thinking about returning to work, ranging from job search and CV production to help with application forms and interview techniques. Constance Grayson, the team’s employment advisor said, “I feel our success to date is due to the pro-active front line approach we have adopted and being a flexible friendly team who genuinely believe in the free and confidential service we are providing. “

One of the most recent people to join up with the team is Chris Dixon, aged 23. “I heard about the Full Employment Team through a friend and made an appointment to see them. At the meeting, I was impressed with the help and advice available and signed up there and then. I found the team really friendly and approachable and can honestly say that it is the best decision I have made in looking for work for a long time.”
