ENTERPRISE SUPPORT CENTRE TO OPEN IN THE DEARNE

Barnsley Development Agency’s Community Economic Regeneration Team (CERT) are pioneering a new approach to enterprise development in the Dearne Valley, with the opening of an Enterprise Support Centre, based in the Little Dearne Credit Union, Goldthorpe. The office will open next month and will become the hub for the development of social enterprise and enterprise creation in the Dearne Valley.

CERT Manager Kevin Jebson said, “This shows real commitment from the CERT team to ensure that the service we provide is as accessible as possible. We aim to encourage our local communities to reap the benefits from becoming more enterprising. We will have a one-stop shop where people can find out about starting a social enterprise or starting their own private business. One of the major innovations is the range of business support which will be provided by various partners including Barnsley Chamber of Commerce and Business Link South Yorkshire.”

He continues, “ We are very excited about this development, particularly being based in the Little Dearne Credit Union. We are creating a virtuous circle, people seeking funding for a new venture might well be able to use the benefits of credit union membership to help them.”

The enterprise support centre will be managed by Lynda Chapman who is well known in the Dearne Valley for her work with the Roundabout Childcare Centre in Bolton. Lynda can be contacted on Tel: 01226 784 444.
