NEW SERVICE OFFERS SOUND ADVICE

A new independent counselling service will soon be open in centre of Barnsley. The service will operate in the Pathways Centre, on Doncaster Road, Barnsley and will offer non-judgemental counselling, covering a wide range of issues any adult may encounter within their lifetime.

Manager, Sue Longstaff said,” Individuals or couples would be invited to attend an assessment session. The purpose of this would be to explore the nature of their difficulties and outline the way forward in counselling. Anyone can use the service, irrespective of whether they are single, married, living together, in a same-sex relationship, separated or divorced. People can refer themselves and we also accept referrals from GPs and other agencies”.

The service has been funded by Barnsley Development Agency’s Community Economic Regeneration Team (CERT) who have secured just under £5,000 for its start up. £7000 has been obtained from the European Regional Development Fund to employ a receptionist who will support volunteer training.

CERT’s Wayne Blake stated, “In today’s society there is a lot of pressure placed upon us which can affect people as individuals, couple or families. There will now be an independent counselling service in Barnsley where people can go, sit and talk to an independent qualified counsellor, talk about their problem and explore ways to improve things and make changes”.
