BARNSLEY’S VERY OWN RADIO STATION IS NEARLY HEAR!

On 5th October 2003, Barnsley will have its very own radio station as Dearne FM starts broadcasting.

24 hours a day, seven days a week on 102 and 97.1 Dearne FM will bring the very best music, news and information to Barnsley and the surrounding area.


From its state of the art studios at Zenith Park networkcentre, Dearne FM will play an appealing combination of Hits & Memories – the very best music from the 60s right through to today’s hits. Regular news bulletins will keep listeners informed of both local and national news and sport headlines, which will put Barnsley first. Listeners will have plenty of opportunities to get involved too! From nominating their classic workplace songs in ‘firm favourites’, to dedications and big prize competitions.

Barnsley Development Agency (BDA) worked with Dearne FM to review property options for establishing a state of the art broadcasting studio, now located at Zenith Park networkcentre, which is a joint initiative between Langtree Group and English Partnerships. BDA’s chief executive John Penney, said; “It is great news that Barnsley will have its own commercial radio station, I wish Dearne FM success in this important development for Barnsley.”

Jeremy Diskin, regional director for Langtree commented; “We are delighted that more and more businesses continue to be attracted to Zenith Park. It is great to see a high profile name like Dearne FM move onto the site. It also highlights the fact that modern facilities at affordable prices are needed in this area. The networkcentre comprises 19 high quality workspace units that are suitable for a variety of uses from general business to office and industrial as illustrated by our wide range of tenants.”

Dearne FM is determined to support the local community. Barnsley FC supporters will have already seen the station’s advertising board in front of the north stand at Oakwell; and Barnsley Rugby Union Football Club Under 12’s can also look forward to wearing the station’s logo on their shirts, as Dearne FM becomes their official sponsors. Listeners can be assured that Dearne FM’s presenters will be at all the major events happening across Barnsley.
