MORE FOR THE PENISTONE SHOW

This month Penistone Farmers Market will run alongside the Annual Penistone Show, on Saturday 13th September.

The markets have proved to be a tremendous success and since April have become a regular fixture; being held monthly on every second Saturday from 10am until 2pm, in Penistone market place.

The markets which are a showcase for local farmers have been very well attended, with customers coming from far and wide to buy good quality locally produced goods including various meats, speciality sausages, breads, cakes, honey, eggs, cheeses, plants and country crafts.


Judith Fozzard from the Yorkshire Rural Community Council said; “Farmers markets are a fantastic idea, they give people the opportunity to buy directly from the farmers, which results in the customer getting higher quality and fresher produce.”

The market has been organised by a sub group of the Penistone and District Community Partnership and has followed national standards laid down by the National Association of Farmers Markets. Organisations keen to help and support the market include Business Link South Yorkshire, who have provided grants for the setting up of the pilot market in December 2002 and Yorkshire Rural Community Council’s Rural Target Fund, who have funded £2,600 for an electrical supply.

Barnsley Development Agency’s Community Economic Regeneration Team has provided business and financial advice to the organisers and secured £5,000 of grant funding to provide revenue costs for the first twelve months, to cover the costs of marketing and publicity to launch this social enterprise.
