£7.5 MILLION DEVELOPMENT BRINGING
SUBSTANTIAL JOBS TO BARNSLEY

Perkins Foods, the leading European chilled, fresh and frozen foods manufacturer, has announced it is investing £7.5 million in a new plant at Waterside Park in Wombwell, Barnsley.

Approximately 100 new jobs will be created in November when the new site becomes operational, with further expansion and job creation planned for 2004 and 2005.

The plant will be part of Fresh-Pak Chilled Foods Ltd, a subsidiary company of Perkins Foods Holdings Ltd, and will initially produce egg-based products. Work has just started on upgrading the 68,000 sq. ft facility, which will include the latest, state of the art manufacturing technology.


Simon Scrivens, divisional managing director of Perkins Fresh Foods said; “We see continued growth in demand for our products and this investment ensures that we can continue to grow with our customers, both retail and industrial. We are working closely with Barnsley Development Agency and Job Centre Plus prior to starting recruitment in September.”
