BARNSLEY MILLER BRINGS A MIDAS TOUCH
TO THE DEARNE VALLEY


Work has just started on ‘Midas’, which is a 67,000 sq ft industrial property located at Fields End Business Park, in the heart of the Dearne Valley Enterprise Zone.

Barnsley Miller Partnership Limited, a joint venture between Miller Developments and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, is providing the £4 million funding through RVB investments Limited.

The development represents the largest speculative industrial scheme within the enterprise zone and is one of only two developments of more than 49,500 sq ft currently in Yorkshire. Insignia Richard Ellis and Fuller Peiser are acting as joint letting agents for the developers.


Nick Harris of Barnsley Miller Partnership comments, “Midas has been carefully designed to provide flexibility for the occupier who is unable to wait for the design and build solution. The location provides accessibility to both A1 (M) and M1 and offers a healthy labour pool in addition to all the benefits of an Enterprise Zone.”

Given the Enterprise Zone location, the building will benefit from exemption from uniform business rates until November 2005 in addition to 100% of the initial capital allowances for tax purpose on eligible expenditure. BMBC Councillor Alan Gardiner said, “I welcome this major investment into the Dearne area. I congratulate all the partners involved and look forward to the employment this will create”.

Barnsley Development Agency’s, John Penney adds, “The ‘Midas’ development will provide an excellent opportunity to secure further investment in Barnsley and build upon the growing confidence in the local economy. We will be working closely with Barnsley Miller Partnership to attract an occupier for the development”.

It is expected that the building will be completed by mid December 2003. The site is situated midway between Junction 36 of the M1 motorway and Junction 37 of the A1 (M).
