BARNSLEY BOOK LAUNCH & WORKSHOP SEAMS TO STRIKE GOLD
A new book which chronicles local residents positive memories and thoughts about Barnsley, will be launched at the Alhambra Centre in Barnsley at 12.00pm on Friday 16 November by local celebrity and broadcaster Ian Clayton and the Mayor of Barnsley.
The book, called Seams of Gold - in recognition of the strong coal mining tradition of the town - features contributions about Barnsley present, future and past, from many local people including Ian Clayton, Darren Gough, Ian McMillan, and Joanne Harris. These names complement the contributions of the many local people who may be famous in their own streets, but who mostly have not had works published before.
This is a somewhat unusual book launch; yes therell be the usual fayre of speeches and book signings, but theres also a quite unique element as well. In partnership with publishers the Open College for the Arts, and the Alhambra Centre, Friday and Saturday will both be themed as Talk it - Write it - Read it workshop days, where Alhambra shoppers and by-passers will be encouraged to offer spontaneous thoughts in the spoken word or written text. These can then be collated after the event and could be used in future books and publications to promote all that is good about Barnsley.
