LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN BARNSLEY!

Young people have worked with Barnsley based company, C Media Productions, to create four films, to be broadcast on the Community Channel throughout the months of August and September.

C Media Productions, which was established in February 2003 by Paul Slater and Yvonne McLoughlin, deliver a range of quality commercial film, motion graphics and digital media services to the education, voluntary and private sectors. The objectives of which are to increase client profile, provide information and consult the general public on various issues.

The company specialises in producing digital drama that reflects contemporary and historical experience throughout the region. They are developing a renowned reputation for creating innovative short films with non-professional actors in their own communities.

By reflecting on peoples lives and experiences, C Media Productions enable groups to explore powerful and thought provoking storylines which not only bring memories and experiences alive, but which also inform and entertain members of their local community.

Two of the four films, broadcast in August, were "Sugar Free" and "Musikally Infektious". These were made as part of the Split Screens Initiative, commissioned by the Showroom Cinema, which is funded by Firstlight, a UK Film Council Initiative.

The other two films titled "Our Town" and "Memories of Ferham" were commissioned by BDR Creative Partnerships and will be broadcast the weeks commencing 6th and 20th September. Each of the films will be broadcast on the community channel and available to watch on Sky Digital 585, Freeview 46, Telewest Channel 233 and NTL 14.

With support from Barnsley Development Agency through the Creativity Works programme, C Media Productions have received grant funding which has enabled the company to develop its post production facilities, and provide access to industry standard filmmaking equipment for future clients and project participants. The Creativity Works programme is also supporting the company through its business mentoring scheme, which is proving invaluable in assisting the directors to plan the future of the company.

Paul Slater, Creative Director of C Media Productions, commented, "The input from Creativity Works is enabling us to expand our post production facilities, purchase new equipment, and most importantly, through the mentoring programme, assess where we are as a company, whilst planning for future growth and development. The Creativity Works programme has helped us move up a gear and maintain the quality of our productions and services which our client base has come to expect."

"Recent festival screenings and the broadcasting of four C Media films on the Community Channel has confirmed that there is a real appetite for the work we are producing in partnership with a variety of clients and partners. It's fantastic that these films, all made with young people, are getting the exposure they deserve. It's a great buzz for young people to see their work broadcast on a national digital channel."
