BOOM TIME FOR BARNSLEY SOCIAL ENTERPRISES


Social Enterprise Barnsley are reporting a boom in the number of new and potential social enterprises registered on their books.



They are now working with over 100 new or potential social enterprises which could lead to a job bonanza in some areas of the borough. The diverse range of business ideas is proof that communities in Barnsley are bursting with creative ideas to develop locally owned businesses.

Manager Kevin Jebson adds, " We are seeing the results of a restructuring that has led to Social Enterprise Barnsley's team of advisers delivering quality assured business advice, tailor made to the needs of social enterprises. We have worked closely with the local community partnerships to identify the opportunities across the whole borough, to make sure that local people can develop their ideas into successful businesses. If all of these new businesses go ahead it will lead to the creation of over 200 jobs, in areas that most need this job creation."

This increase in enterprising ideas demonstrates the realisation by the community that sustainability is the way forward. “The voluntary sector have a vital role to play in the regeneration of our towns and we are further encouraged that our success has now been recognised by groups who have expressed a desire to establish new partnerships and new enterprises in Barnsley”, continued Kevin.

Social Enterprise Barnsley have just opened their new office in Goldthorpe to specifically serve the communities of the Dearne. Office Manager Lynda Chapman added, "A lot of the growth in the number of new social enterprises has happened in the Dearne. Our new office is a commitment to ensure that these new social enterprises receive the best possible advice and counselling. All of our advisers are assessed against national standards, to ensure that we deliver the best business advice possible. We are looking forward to helping to create a vibrant diverse social economy in the Dearne and in Barnsley as a whole."
