FIVE YEARS OF SUCCESS, SO FAR!


Barnsley Development Agency recently celebrated their 5th Birthday and the launch of Social Enterprise Barnsley in style at Mapplewell Village Hall.

In attendance were a number of guest speakers who contributed to the event by outlining the past, present and future aspirations of Social Enterprise Barnsley (SEB).

The event was officially opened by his worshipful the Mayor William Newman and Lady Mayoress Pat Newman.


Social Enterprise Barnsley have secured funding from Yorkshire Forward’s Single Pot Programme for business support to social enterprise as well as Objective One and SRB money. The overall programme is worth over £6 million across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham with approximately £2 million to be spent in Barnsley.

Barnsley Development Agency’s Social Enterprise Barnsley Team have already established a service that has played an integral part in the launch of 26 Social Enterprises in Barnsley in sectors such as childcare, recycling, construction, credit unions to name but a few.

David Kennedy, Director of Development at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council said, “Social Enterprise Barnsley have and will continue to play a key role in the regeneration of Barnsley’s economy. Their work with communities is highly valued and the service they provide is seen as vital to achieving sustainable communities”.

Kevin Jebson manager of Social Enterprise Barnsley said, “We are delighted that the funders recognise the importance of high quality business support to social enterprises in our communities and the lasting and beneficial effects they can have on creating new jobs and wealth as well as goods and services”.
