Local Economy

Barnsley is delighted to maintain major employers including Kostal UK, Koyo Bearings, Speedframe, Manor Bakeries, S.R Gents, Galpharm International and Mercedes Benz as well as welcoming inward investors to the region.

BDA, the comprehensive business support agency in Barnsley, facilitates funding to help support existing investors and community enterprise. Investor Development is key to helping existing companies, including inward investors to expand and create new jobs. A £1.2 million programme of funding is on-going to provide financial assistance for specialised training packages for companies.

Objective 1 is one of three programmes set up by the European Union to provide investment funds to improve social and economic conditions in targeted areas. South Yorkshire has been granted Objective 1 status that provides access to approx. £700 million to facilitate economic development, social regeneration, business support and labour.
