The transformation of Barnsley does not mean we have forgotten our past. Steeped in history the regeneration of the grade 2 listed Civic combines past and present to provide a new and unique cultural and shopping experience encompassing designer-led retail, a design centre exhibiting the work of local artists and a brand new Assembly room providing an ideal performance space for dance, music and theatre.

Wentworth Castle and its 40 acres of tranquil gardens captured the hearts of the nation when it appeared on the BBC TV series ‘Restoration’. The 18th Century gardens are one the most important historic locations in the North of England providing visitors with atmospheric views and woodland walks all year round.

Ashley Jackson is one the country’s leading and most successful landscape watercolourists. His unique and distinctive paintings of brooding moorlands have become synonymous with Yorkshire, and more particular the moors above and around his gallery situated in the heart of the Pennines, Holmfirth. His works have been exhibited worldwide, have been purchased by many successful and famous people and have entertained TV audiences for over 40 years.

Pollyanna, the world renowned clothing boutique, was established by Rita Britton in 1967. Since then, Pollyanna is now in its fifth location, a four floor Georgian Townhouse with state-of-the-art interior on Market Hill in Barnsley - it also includes a fabulous restaurant/cafe recently featured in the Yorkshire Post, which has a friendly welcoming atmosphere second to none, not to mention the irresistible menu. It is the oldest of the few remaining independent fashion retailers in Britain having been in business for 40 years and has been hailed as one of the leading shops in the world by London's Victoria and Albert Museum.
