Leggett & Platt Increase Production, Capacity and Efficiency

Leggett & Platt Components Europe Limited officially opened its new 230,000 square foot, Divisional Head Office and UK production facility in Barnsley, South Yorkshire on Wednesday 23rd September 2009.

Geographically positioned in the heart of the UK, Leggett & Platt have redeveloped on an existing brownfield site left redundant following the demise of the mining industry in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The vertically integrated, state of the art centre for manufacturing excellence, with incorporated European Divisional Head Office was officially opened by The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor John Parkinson, with his wife Mrs Linda Parkinson. Amongst other honoured guests in attendance was John Coronado the Commercial Attaché for the U.S. Embassy in London. Leggett & Platt have invested £14 million into this new facility which specialises in drawn wire and springs for the UK bedding industry and employs more than 200 people across three shifts.

Integration of the existing Barnsley production facility into this new site has not only increased production capacity, but also maximises the utilisation of all machinery assets and technical expertise, whilst optimising distribution and overall efficiency. The site boasts the utilisation of the latest energy saving technology, installed to achieve effective energy conservation and improve facility efficiency and performance, with warm air reclamation and implementation of a green IT infrastructure…Leggett & Platt Springs UK’s Barnsley development has a BREEAM (1) rating of over 55 which is very good!

So with the new Divisional Head Office and UK production facility in Barnsley, along with its sister facility based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire forming Leggett & Platt Springs UK (part of Leggett & Platt Components Europe Limited), they are perfectly positioned to continue their support of major UK manufacturers such as Silentnight beds, Simmons Bedding Group and Slumberland…clearly demonstrating a continued and long term commitment to the UK bedding industry.
