Barnsley Town Centre

Barnsley has a vibrant town centre featuring pedestrian precincts with high street stores and a renowned 700 year old market which is open five days a week. The town is currently undergoing a major re-development project, ‘Remaking Barnsley’, that will create a unique 21st Century Market Town offering further retail and leisure facilities.

Choose from the many retail outlets or opt for exclusive designer fashion from a variety of emporiums, such as ‘Pollyanna’s’; then enjoy a relaxing light lunch at one of the many café bars and restaurants. For cultural inspiration why not visit ‘The Cooper Gallery' on Church Street. The Gallery is home to the Cooper Trustees’ collection of 17th to 20th Century paintings, watercolours and drawings by famous artists such as JMW Turner and Henry Moore. At the nearby Design Centre discover a showcase of National and International Arts & Crafts.

Each year there is a full programme of town centre events including the Summer Carnival, Christkindlmarkt (Christmas market), entertainment and fairs for Barnsley residents and visitors to enjoy.
