Formed in 1992, Bartec Auto has succeeded in becoming a world leader in automotive technology having developed a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The system reads radio frequency tyre pressure sensors and feeds the information to in-car computers, warning drivers of any problems.

Bartec’s products have been implemented into the production line and assembly points of car manufacturing plants across the world. Their customer base has grown considerably and now includes some of the biggest companies in the automotive industry including Ford, Nissan, Renault, Jaguar and Land Rover. This is reflected in the company’s export sales, which have risen by 215% over the past three years. This rise in sales has led to the company having a 70% share of the market with both turnover and workforce having doubled.

Based at Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre (BBIC), the company also operate in some of the toughest markets in the world including the U.S, Canada, Japan, France and Sweden. New laws in the US making tyre pressure sensors a mandatory requirement on all passenger carrying vehicles have further contributed to Bartec’s success and the company’s largest ever export order book.

A presentation event was held at BBIC on Friday 23rd September where The Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire formally presented Chairman of Bartec Auto ID, Brian Wolfe and Sales Director, Cheryl Webb with the prestigious Queens Award for Enterprise 2005. The event was also attended by The Worshipful the Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Barnsley.
