Barnsley borough covers over 127 square miles from Penistone, a Pennine market town, in the west to the former Yorkshire coalfield areas of the east bordering with Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Huddersfield and Wakefield.
The borough includes 10 towns and 23 villages and covers wooded valleys, rolling farmland as well as wetlands and industrial and residential areas.
The borough has a range of business premises for all sizes and types of operation and a good road and public transport network reaching out from the town centre. A number of excellent hotels are located across the borough including Tankersley Manor, part of the QHotels group to the south western edge of the borough close to junction 36 of the M1 and the Enterprise Zone industrial areas, Holiday Inn and Ramada Encore hotels just off junction 37 and close to the town centre and the Capital Court business park, Ardsley House Hotel and Burntwood Court Hotel near to the business park at Park Springs where ASOS Global Distribution Centre is located plus a number of smaller hotels and B&B facilities all across the borough.
At the heart of the borough is Barnsley town centre providing a cosmopolitan mix of cafes, theatres, museums, art galleries and a Premier Inn hotel.
Sports and leisure facilities are available across the borough including the Metrodome leisure complex adjacent to the town centre, and a number of high quality gym and fitness facilities in the town centre and beyond including a Bannatynes health club near junction 37 of the M1.
