The company’s Training & Environmental Officer, Mark Scanlan, explained “Our Company is committed to investing in workforce training and are always moving people to different sections so they can learn new skills. So when the opportunity came up to recondition 12 computers, that would otherwise have been thrown out, and set up an IT training facility in an unused office I jumped at the chance.”
The project, which also benefited from funding through the Government’s Train to Gain programme, has provided the employees with an NVQ ITQ Level 2
As well as providing the employees with a new qualification, Mark also explained that there was increased staff motivation and improved information gathering and presentations from the continuous improvement teams.
Judy Sidebottom, Barnsley Development Agency’s Human Resources specialist, who provides support to the company commented, “This is an excellent example of a company investing in it’s workforce. The employees have been allowed time to train during the working week and I am sure this will be of long term benefit to all concerned.”
