The Company was established in 2003 and based at Bromcliffe Business Park, Barnsley, South Yorkshire they provide a comprehensive range of construction, maintenance and carbon reduction services.
Martin explained that “Having recently secured a number of refurbishment and Maintenance contracts we are increasing our local trade teams by targeting local recruitment; thus improving our long term projections for growth and the local economy. Working with Job Centre Plus and Barnsley Job Centre has meant that a number of those recruited were long term unemployed.”
YGI are committed to recruiting locally and investing in workforce training to develop both professional and social skills. Gary Dakin, YGI’s Training Health & Safety Environment Manager, is committed to this ethic. As a local ex miner, with a mechanical engineering background, Gary retrained as a gas and electrical engineer before being further promoted at YGI.
“I started on the tools, but YGI see the potential in people so I progressed to site supervisor before moving into training and health & safety” Gary explained.
He went onto say “We’ve recently employed a local applicant - Robert Shaw. Robert showed real initiative, he wrote up his CV and hand delivered it, this demonstrated a positive attitude. We believe in a multi skilled training so Robert is now spending time in each trade department”
Central to the company’s business plan is the development of a specialist training facility, which will provide in house and external training with its local training partners concentrating on renewable technologies, heating, electrical, joinery, plastering, plumbing, groundwork’s, brickwork and tiling.
Other recent developments have been the renewal of their fleet with new fuel efficient vehicles and a commitment to installing renewable technologies into their Barnsley based headquarters. Additionally, YGI are expected to get micro generation certification scheme (MCS) approval for the installation and development of cutting edge renewable technologies into domestic and commercial properties.
Shaun outlined “BDA has been working closely with YGI to offer them all the necessary support and assistance they need to ensure they can maximise their potential and growth in the construction & maintenance industry.”
The company has continued to grow and although last year saw the country in the grips of a recession, the team at YGI are looking forward to a successful 2010.
